Song Q&A
What’s the song about?
Cool, wistful, a little playful. More than anything I loved the way the instruments sounded. In some ways it’s a very simple song, and looking back I can hear things I’d do differently — the arrangement feels a little simplistic now.
Where did the idea come from?
The title just came — no clear memory of the original idea behind it. Generally I try to make titles interesting and provocative, and sometimes deliberately the opposite of the feeling of the song. I had been playing around with music production and this was one of the first songs I really started to like.
How did it come together in the studio/production?
Honestly I didn’t really know what I was doing at that point — I was just happy to make something that sounded musical. The part that worked best was the violin-like sound combined with guitars. It has a good sound to it.
On the short runtime (1:32)
Not deliberate — still learning quickly at that point!

Why release it when you were still learning?
I made a decision early on to do a lot of my work in public and to not be ashamed of putting things out that weren’t perfect. My early motto was quantity over quality — which isn’t to say I didn’t care how it sounded, of course I did. But I knew that if I put things out there without shame, I’d learn more quickly and it would get better faster. In retrospect that was really true.
