What’s the song about?

Instrumental. An experiment. It has a clarity and directness to it — a little obvious in its approach, but very clear and focused. Something to aspire to in a lot of my other music.

Where did the idea come from?

The name might have come from being on vacation in Canada at the time. A bit of a dumb reason to name it that, but there it is.

How did it come together in the studio/production?

On the search for surprising sounds

Especially unusual instruments or textures — evocative sounds, or things I haven’t heard a lot before. I don’t always get there, but I love it when it happens.

On the complicated relationship with this track

Was a little embarrassed by it for a long time. When you listen, it’s very direct — it hits you on the head with everything. Which can be good in some music! If I were to do it over now I’d probably replace some of the melodic elements and add sounds that were a little more unusual. I always strive for sounds that surprise me a little.
