What’s the song about?

The name is intended to be evocative but doesn’t have any real relation to the music. The song is more somber than my earlier work, and it builds and builds, adding a little touch of aggression before letting you down quietly.

Why is this song significant to you?

This was a real turning point in my music. I like a lot of my earlier songs, but this was where I started to learn how to arrange music. It’s got a lot more progression and vocal layers than any of my other songs, even though it’s still basically an instrumental piece. It sounds like it has a better structure than a lot of my earlier pieces and tells a more cohesive story as a result.

How did it come together in the studio/production?

It’s still basically an instrumental piece, but with long, drawn-out vocals that stretch on and add a background to the whole piece — they don’t say anything at all, just give the vibe. Then a deep grinding bass sound comes in. At the aggressive peak, the grinding bass and a lot more vocals hit together before the song lets you down quietly.

I enjoyed some of the subtle effects I put on the vocals. You may notice some tremolo on some of them!
